摘要: Variations in indoor and outdoor total gaseous mercury (TGM) concentrations at nine residential locations in downtown Chongqing, China, were measured to identify possible sources and evaluate diurnal and seasonal fluctuations. Indoor TGM concentrations (eight buildings in summer and two in winter) were significantly elevated over outdoor concentrations. Diurnal and seasonal variations were identified, with most sites having higher concentrations in summer and at night. Overall, TGM concentrations were highly variable, likely as a result of changes in anthropogenic emissions (e.g., coal combustion, mobile sources, iron refinery), fluctuations in atmospheric variables, and unique events (e.g., use of mercury-containing skin cream, thermometer spill).
