摘要: The over-accumulation of microorganisms and their extracellular polymeric substances (EPS) leading to bioclogging, severely limits the efficiency and lifespan of constructed wetlands (CW). In this study, three reactors were constructed, microbial fuel cell (MFC) coupled CW open circuit (MCO), MFC coupled CW closed circuit (MCC), and a traditional constructed wetland as control (CK). The experimental results demonstrated that MCC exhibited the minimal solid accumulation, a large effective internal volume, and no preferential flow. Compared to CK, MCC had 45 % less volatile suspended solid (VSS) and 47 % less EPS. The reduction of functional groups, such as proteins and polysaccharides, weakened the attachment and aggregation ability of EPS in MCC. Highthroughput sequencing analysis revealed that the microbial community richness was the highest in MCC, with increased relative abundance of electroactive bacteria (EAB), such as Bacteroidota and Acidobacteriota. MCC accommodated diverse microbial communities, and enhanced the prevalence of Propionicimonas and norank_f__Bacteroidetes_vadinHA17, which had the potential of degrading EPS. Therefore, coupling MFC can reduce biological blockage, limit EPS aggregation, and enhance EPS degradation by modifying the microbial community structure to alleviate bio-clogging in CWs.
